Dr Ashwini Parashar SMS hospital Team is working for poor

After being taunted these medical students became friends of the poor

This happened on 18 June 2016 when a patient who came to SMS hospital for his cure said to Medical student Dr. Ashwini Parashar that doctors are only interested in making money. There are strikes happening here regularly but no one sees the poor patients lying on the hospital floor.

Dr. Ashwini thought of changing this thought process from people's minds and started distributing clothes and first aid medicines to people sleeping on footpaths at night. Ashwini along with Himanshu Sain, Saurabh Gupta, Jai Gupta, Piyush Sharma, Mohit Tejwani, Shubham Soni, Rajeshwari Singh, Kirti Gera, Ayushi Mittal, Devyanshi Jain, Ekta Meena, Silky Das, Gunjan Sharma, Anju Choudhary and 28 more students joined in this deed.

They also give free medicines to those who are sick. Around 100 students of 15 colleges have joined this campaign. The MBBS students told about this in various colleges to administration and students and motivated them to start it at their own level. This campaign is known as clothing donation drive - cloth the city. Most students are around 20-22 years of age. This was published on WhatsApp group and students from Delhi, Ajmer, Kota, Jhalawad, Udaipur, Bikaner, Indore, Lucknow, Gorakhpur have also joined hands in this campaign.

Critical operation at SMS Hospital Jaipur

The doctors at SMS hospital saved the life of a man by taking out his stomach, pancreas, spleen and a part of large intestine. This operation went on for 8 hours. It was a risky operation since the patient had cancer. That is why all these parts had to be taken out together. The patient was bleeding daily and two unit blood was transfused in him monthly. Around 70 units blood had been transfused in the past 3 years.

If the parts were not taken out then bleeding wouldn't have stopped and the patient would have died. Brijesh Sharma 54, from Bharatpur, was diagnosed with cancer 3 years back. Slowly the tumor spread to other places. It spread from stomach to pancreas to spleen to large intestine. Dr. Sandeep Jasuja at SMS hospital gave him chemotherapy which helped in reduction of the tumor but bleeding didn't stop. Brijesh kept losing his weight and hemoglobin. He had to transfuse blood each month. The patient was shown by his family members at the gastro department where Dr. Ajay Sharma got a CT scan of the patient and then the operation was decided.

His stomach was taken out 75% Pancreas was taken out 75% spleen was taken out completely and big intestine was taken out 30 percent.

Why is this operation so important :
  • If a single mistake was occurred the patient would have bled and his blood was already very low.
  • Taking out 4 important parts together was a challenge.
  • The patient had cancer and this would give respite to him from chemotherapy.
  • This paved the way for such patients in future.
