SMS has more heart surgeries then AIIMS while lesser machines than AIIMS

SMS hospital has more heart surgeries than AIIMS even though here Cath lab has lesser machines than AIIMS

The most surgeries including pacemaker, angioplasty, angiography and other heart surgery etc have been performed at SMS hospital within the country. Until now AIIMS Delhi used to be number one in this field. Even in South India there has not been such large number of surgeries in any hospital.

The numbers tell the truth -

There were 4446 angiographies at AIIMS last year, Stent and angioplasty were 1225, permanent pacemaker were 300, mitral volvotomy were 351, IE total heart surgeries amounted to 6378 at AIIMS last year. At SMS there were 5731 angiography, 2888 ptca, 290 ppie, 210 ptmc and 17 patients were RAFA. So that amounted to 9136 patients in a year.

There are renowned cardiologists here at SMS and patients not only from Rajasthan but from UP, Punjab, Haryana, MP, and Delhi are coming to get treated here. Because of various government policies also many patients prefer coming here. But on other hand AIIMS Cath lab has four machines whereas SMS has two machines only which makes the patients wait for their turn. Also there is shortage of staff.

Dr. SM Sharma of SMS hospital shares that there is no disease that we cannot treat and if we get some more machines and are not short staffed we can perform much better.

Cardio Vascular and thoracic department Dr Anil Sharma

Cancer’s growth in heart was taken out without invasive surgery

At SMS hospital’s Cardio Vascular and thoracic department, Dr Anil Sharma and his team operated on left side of a woman ‘s heart on a cancerous growth without cutting the chest bone. They took tissue from patient’s heart and closed the hole. This will help the women in heaps as she wont have to take medicine for life and wont have the fear of clotting.

This new technique is being praised by surgeons world wide. Dr. Sharma has said that this is one of the first cases in the world of its kind and it would be sent to CT surgery’s international publication.

Prabha Devi, 42 was suffering from breathlessness and stomach problems since six months. She hails from Kota. In tests it was found that the patients had an 80 grams of tumor in left side of heart and the heart’s weight was 250 grams. So she had to lie straight while breathing. If the tumor was not taken out on time it could cause paralysis and death in the patient.

Rare case - Dr. Shyam Singh from PGI Chandigarh says that closing the hole by taking out tissue from heart itself and taking out tumor without cutting the chest bone is a rare case in itself. Even artificial cloth dekron was also not used in this. In the future tumors of the heart will be operated through this method.

Dr. Mahesh Ramchandani Linox Hill hospital, Dr. Reddy of America, Dr. Vijay Dixit Chief Cardiac Surgeon Apollo Hyderabad, Dr. Ganesh Mani Chief Cardic Apollo Delhi has also established this case as rarest of rare.

Neurosurgery department doctor's performed by enjurium flow diverter technique

Clotting due to brain nerve caused paralytic attack in eye, then stent was put in leg to make blood reach in brain

At SMS hospital’s neurosurgery department doctor's have treated a patient by enjurium flow divert technique. Doctors used his leg’s artery and used stent to create blood flow in his brain. After minimal invasive surgery the patient is in ICU. According to Dr. VD Sinha of neurosurgery department of SMS hospital, Ravindra Kumar, 53, from Kekdi had a stroke suddenly in his right eye 10 days back and couldn't see. With CT scan and angiography it was found that a balloon was formed in the nerve which flows blood to the brain. This created pressure on eye nerve.
