better treatment in Country’s first rare disease clinic.

Around 62
children have been benefiting from treatment at State’s largest child hospital
JK Loan’s rare disease clinic and all children are on path of recovery now
after 5 months. According to ICMR there are more than seven crore cases of more
than 7000 rare diseases in India.
In Rajasthan only the number of cases amount
to more than 25 lakhs. Any disease which occurs in one out of 2000 people comes
under rare diseases according to the European
council.

Due to less
information, knowledge and how of such rare diseases even doctors are
sometimes unable to detect them and normal treatments continue which leads to
deterioration of health of patient and then the treatment or cure becomes impossible.
To eliminate this problem Rajasthan government took a decision to open this
rare disease clinic in April. According to Dr. Ashok Gupta of J.K Loan Hospital
“The first rare disease clinic to be launched in Rajasthan is a big step in the
field of medical science. Around 62 cases have been diagnosed and treated. The
main benefit is that the doctors now have the knowledge of such rare diseases
which was impossible to find before.
Information about Two Cases – Saved
from rare disease
Case 1. An infant child, daughter of Kailash
from Barmer, was nearly unconscious and was not responding properly since 3 days.
She had problems in both her hands and legs within two days of birth and had
stopped drinking milk. Tests like CBC, Serum Calcium and ammonia, renal
function, septic screen and MRI etc were performed on the infant and it was
deterred that she had metabolism problem. She was treated for same and is
healthy now.
Case 2. A child of 11 months had vomiting and
diarrhea and within 8 hours the respiratory system started deteriorating. The
child was admitted for around 12 days in JK Loan hospital and several tests like
ACOT, Cholesterol, Serum Lactate, ammonia etc were conducted and was inferred
that the child was suffering from Galactosemia. The new treatment for the same
was started and the child is healthy now.
